Antonio Citterio was born in Meda, Italy in 1950.

He designed his first piece of furniture at age 18 and completed his degree in architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1975. While studying, he opened his own design studio at age 22 (in 1972) and he has since proved to be one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century. His work spans the fields of architecture, industrial design, furniture design, tap & mixer design (with Axor, HansGrohe & Geberit), utensils (Axor), kitchens (Arclinea) and equipment (Technogym).

Between 1987 and 1996, he designed a number of buildings across Europe and Japan with Terry Dawn.

In 2000, Citterio and Patricia Viel formed a multidisciplinary architecture, interior- and industrial design studio. The partnership has delivered projects the world over, including luxury hotels, offices, and urban construction projects.

Since 2006, Antonio Citterio has taught at the Academy for Architecture in the University of Lugano in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

He has received numerous awards, including the Compasso d’Oro in 1987 and 1995. He was named ‘Royal Designer for Industry’ by the London-based Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce in 2008.
