Mogensen started as a cabinetmaker in 1934 but soon after in 1936 started studying furniture design. After his studies in furniture design Mogensen studied architecture until 1942.
During his studies, Mogensen worked with various design studios, notably with Kaare Klint for whom he acted as a teacher’s assistant.
After his studies, Mogensen regularly exhibited his furniture creations at the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild exhibition. He was also the Head of Furniture Design during the 1940s for the Danish Cooperative Wholesale Society.
When Kaare Klint passed away in 1954, Mogensen succeeded him as the designer to the Danish Museum of Decorative Art.
Mogensen firmly believed in the value of designing storage for the home and creating spaces for the family to take part in multiple activities at once. Mogensen designed sofa sets for the living room which was a relatively new idea in the 1950s.
In 1950, Mogensen opened his own studio. Mogensen received the Eckersberg Medal in 1950, as well as the highest architectural honors in Denmark, the C.F. Hansen medal, in 1972.
Børge Mogensen died in 1972. He was only 58 years old.
